Despite being away from home, Flamengo's supporters made their presence felt at Vila Belmiro throughout the encounter. On Thursday (8), in the 29th round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo drew 2-2 with Santos, picked up another crucial point and held their grip on first place.
In an entertaining contest with chances at both ends, Rubro-Negro built a two-goal advantage in the first half. Danilo opened the scoring after combining with Pedro, and Lucas Paquetá extended the lead with a header, capitalizing on Carrascal's cross. In the second period, Neymar converted two penalty kicks to earn Santos a share of the spoils.

The Match
The game began evenly balanced, with both sides competing for possession and battling in midfield. Flamengo's first dangerous opportunity came in the sixth minute. Carrascal advanced down the right, beat his marker and whipped a cross toward the near post seeking Pedro, but Lucas Veríssimo intercepted the pass and goalkeeper Diógenes gathered safely.
Two minutes later, following a good passing sequence, Samuel Lino broke into the box, combined with Carrascal and let fly, though Santos' defense managed to block the attempt.
Halfway through the first half, Flamengo threatened again through an incisive individual run by Carrascal. After receiving a pass from Paquetá, the Colombian danced past three defenders and drove into the area. As he prepared to shoot, the Santos defense closed him down and he could not get his effort away cleanly.
With greater possession and attacking intent, Flamengo fashioned another clear-cut chance through Danilo. The center-back gambled from distance and the ball, after a deflection off a Santos defender, crashed against the post. From the rebound, Pedro fired point-blank at Diógenes, who saved heroically with his face and denied the Rubro-Negro.
In the 43rd minute, Danilo carried the ball through the midfield and slipped a pass to Pedro. The number 9 shielded possession, spotted his colleague peeling off into the area and returned the favor. Danilo struck first time, low and hard, and found the net at Vila Belmiro. Flamengo 1-0!

A hero of Flamengo's 2025 Copa Libertadores triumph, Danilo netted his sixth goal in the Manto Sagrado, his first of the campaign. With the assist, Pedro reached 47 goal contributions for Flamengo, including ten so far in 2026.
Buoyed by the advantage, Flamengo maintained their pressure. Paquetá charged into the box and unleashed a shot, but the ball deflected off the defense and forced a superb save from Diógenes. From the follow-up, Samuel Lino headed from just inside the area, and Escobar heroically cleared off the line, conceding a corner.
From the short corner routine, Carrascal lifted the ball into the area and Lucas Paquetá won the aerial duel to flick a header past the keeper for Flamengo's second. Flamengo 2-0!

With that goal, Paquetá reached 30 for Flamengo, including 12 since returning to the club. Carrascal, credited with the assist, reached 16 goal contributions in the Manto Sagrado, 11 of them in 2026.
The first half ended with Flamengo in command and dominant in the key attacking metrics. They recorded ten shots, 61% possession and 309 completed passes, achieving an 89% pass completion rate.
After the restart, Flamengo maintained their attacking posture. Just a minute into the second half, Samuel Lino won the ball back and launched a counter-attack with Santos' rearguard in disarray. Following a crisp exchange of passes involving Pedro and Carrascal, Paquetá received and struck first time, aiming for the top corner as the ball sailed just over the bar.
In the sixth minute, Samuel Lino carved through the Santos defense with a sublime pass to release Léo Pereira down the right. The center-back, operating as a makeshift winger, sent over a testing cross for Paquetá lurking in the box, but the delivery was too firm.
As the game wore on, the contest became increasingly physical, and the referee issued yellow cards to players from both sides.
In the 33rd minute, Santos earned a penalty following an incident involving Jorginho and Rony. As play continued, the Flamengo midfielder received a red card and Neymar stepped up, reducing the deficit. Santos 1-2 Flamengo.
Then in the 42nd minute, the home side was awarded another spot-kick. Neymar converted again to level affairs at Vila Belmiro. Santos 2-2 Flamengo.
In the closing stages, Santos pressed forward hunting a winner, but Flamengo remained organized at the back and secured a valuable point away from home.
